Whether you’re a long time BMW enthusiast or just dipping your toes into the world of high performance coupes, this model offers a driving experience that’s tough to beat. Here’s a deep dive into what you can expect from the 2024 M4 Coupe, along with some of my personal observations after spending time in previous M4s and looking at the newest updates.

Design and Exterior: Bold, Aggressive, and Still Controversial

Let’s start with the elephant in the room: the grille. The M4’s kidney grille has been a hot topic since it first debuted with this new generation, and the 2024 model retains this controversial design. It’s huge, vertical, and definitely makes a statement. When I first saw it, I was honestly taken aback it's a love it or hate it kind of look. But the grille has grown on me, especially in darker colors where it blends a bit more seamlessly with the car’s aggressive lines. 

Aside from the grille, the rest of the exterior is simply stunning. BMW has mastered the balance of making the M4 look sporty and elegant at the same time. The 2024 model also features new wheel designs and optional carbon fiber trim that gives it that extra edge. If you opt for the   M Carbon Exterior Package  , you’ll get carbon fiber elements on the front air intakes, rear diffuser, and mirror caps, adding a lightweight, motorsport inspired touch.

If, however, you’re after pure speed, the   8 speed automatic   found in the M4 Competition is smooth and lightning fast, perfect for shaving off seconds on the track or enjoying hassle free shifting in traffic.

Adaptive Suspension and M Mode    

BMW’s   Adaptive M Suspension   comes standard on all M4s, and it’s been tuned to perfection. It automatically adjusts to road conditions, keeping the car flat through corners without sacrificing too much comfort for daily driving. Add in the   M Mode   feature, which lets you choose between ROAD, SPORT, and TRACK settings, and you can customize the car’s responsiveness depending on whether you’re cruising around town or pushing it to the limit on a closed circuit.

Handling: BMW’s Motorsport DNA

What sets the M4 apart from other coupes isn’t just the power under the hood it’s the way it handles. One of the first things you’ll notice when driving an M4 is how precise and responsive the steering feels. The   electromechanical power steering   with   M Servotronic   is sharp, delivering excellent feedback without being overly heavy. I remember driving the previous M4 and being blown away by how it hugged corners, feeling planted no matter how hard I pushed it.

In the 2024 model, BMW’s xDrive system is available for those who want even more control, especially in less than ideal driving conditions. The all wheel drive system is rear biased, meaning you still get that classic BMW rear wheel drive feel, but with added grip when you need it. You can also dial the system back to rear wheel drive with the push of a button, making it feel more traditional if you’re on dry pavement and want to kick out the rear a bit for some fun.

Brakes and Tires    

The   M Compound Brakes   come standard, with the option to upgrade to   M Carbon Ceramic Brakes   if you’re serious about track days. The carbon ceramics are expensive, but if you’re planning to push the car hard on the track, they’re worth every penny for their incredible stopping power and fade resistance.

The M4 also comes with   19 inch wheels up front and 20 inch wheels   in the back, wrapped in high performance tires that grip the road like glue. If you go for the   Competition Package  , you get sticky, track ready tires that offer an insane level of grip.

Interior: Luxury Meets Functionality

Stepping inside the 2024 BMW M4, you’re met with an interior that’s both luxurious and functional. BMW has always done a great job of blending performance features with high end materials, and the M4 is no different. The   M Carbon Bucket Seats   are probably the most eye catching feature they’re aggressive, highly bolstered, and look like they belong in a race car. I personally loved the way they held me in place during hard cornering, but be aware: they’re not the most comfortable for long road trips. If you’re more focused on daily driving comfort, the standard M Sport seats might be a better fit.

As for tech, the M4 comes equipped with BMW’s latest   iDrive 8 infotainment system  . It’s displayed on a 14.9 inch curved touchscreen, which is integrated with the digital instrument cluster, making everything feel futuristic and sleek. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a premium   Harman Kardon sound system   are all standard. And honestly, the sound system is so good you might want to just sit in the car and listen to music though the exhaust note is music in its own right.

Pricing: What’s the Damage?

The 2024 BMW M4 isn’t exactly cheap, but that’s expected for a car in this class. The   base M4   starts around   $77,000  , while the   M4 Competition   begins at roughly   $80,000  . If you opt for the xDrive all wheel drive system, you’re looking at closer to   $85,000  . Add in all the extras like carbon ceramic brakes, carbon bucket seats, and the M Carbon Package, and you can easily push the price north of $100,000. But honestly, for the level of performance, luxury, and brand prestige you’re getting, it feels like a fair deal.
